In Memoriam – Mike Lee, 1947 – 2026

We are really sorry to hear that Mike Lee, who lived in The Lealand, has passed away. Although Mike and his wife Teresa have only lived in East Farndon for seven years, no one in the village can truly claim to have deeper roots here than Mike.

He was descended from the Lee family who were the original residents in what’s now called ‘The Manor’ on Back Lane. The monogram of Thomas Lee and the date 1664 are visible on the front of the house. In the south aisle of the parish church is a memorial to Thomas Lee and his family and the aisle is referred to in Bridges’ 18th century ‘History of Northamptonshire’ as ‘Mr Lee’s ile (aisle)’.

Mike’s career was in marketing with British Leyland and then writing for British Steam Railways magazine. He was an encyclopaedia of knowledge about railways and his knowledge of geology proved helpful in compiling the article on the Judith Stone on the village website. He had studied geology at university and was a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

Mike and Teresa have helped out with and attended many village events in East Farndon and Mike will be very much missed by our whole community.
