East Farndon Spring Clean Event – March 2023 – did you spot a womble?

Keeping our village clean and litter free has always been a great community value to the residents of East Farndon. Back in the early 90s, a group of 28 residents led by Ollie and Bob Boucher, entered into the ‘Northamptonshire Operation Spring Clean’ event. Through their handwork and passion, they won the campaign with the prize of the black bin which is positioned proudly outside our Village Hall.

This legacy has continued and in 2023 the village held the annual Spring Clean event March 18th – 2nd April. This coincided with the nationwide Keep Britain Tidy ‘Great British Spring Clean’. We linked up with the Northants Litter Wombles to form the ‘East Farndon Litter Wombles’ group.

On Saturday March 18th an amazing group of volunteers collected over 20 bags of litter followed by another couple of groups that week to collect 24 bags in total!

Community support is very important to East Farndon resident Charlotte Prew, who has used this initiative as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award. Please click the link below to open a pdf document, prepared by Charlotte and Sam Beesley, that tells the story of our event in more detail and includes some great photos.

A very big thank you to all the residents who pick up litter on a regular basis in our village in caring for the environment and wildlife. If you have a few spare minutes and would like to join our group to volunteer, we’d love to hear from you. We will be arranging another event in the early autumn.

Thank you,
Sam Beesley & Charlotte Prew
