2022 is destined to be a special year. The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations take place over the extended bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June. There are multiple national events, including the lighting of beacons across the world at 9.15pm on Thursday evening.
In addition, it is 200 years since the Parish Council started as a Vestry meeting on 31st May 1822, this replaced by a Parish Meeting in 1895, becoming the Parish Council in 1977.
East Farndon Parish Council (EFPC) is coordinating across our multiple village organisations to organise Jubilee events so that we can bring people together to celebrate in style. We have formed a Jubilee Celebrations Committee and are looking for help from as many volunteers as possible.
At this stage, please Save the Dates for the following village events that are currently in the planning stage.
Thursday 2nd June – Jubilee Beacons & Beer
Two of our local farmers, Nigel & Richard, have kindly offered to light beacons to open the celebrations. Villagers will be invited to gather at Richard’s farm at the top of the hill to get a panoramic view of the beacons. This will be an informal event with people bringing their own food and drink if they wish to.
Friday 3rd June – Jubilee Coffee Morning
The Village Hall will hold a special Coffee Morning that will include a historical display that features Royal Celebrations in the village and 200 years of village support from the Parish Council.
Saturday 4th June – Jubilee Family Festival
We will hold a sizeable outdoor event that will take place on Nigel’s field at the bottom of the hill. During the afternoon, this will include a traditional Fete, a special Jubilee Children’s Lunch, Games and a variety of Armed Forces Displays. From late afternoon into the evening, we will enjoy the performances of multiple Music Acts, combined with a Bar and Food.
If you have any comments or questions or would like to volunteer to help, please contact the Jubilee Celebrations Committee by emailing the Co-chairs, Caroline Burton and / or Mervyn Curtis via the following links.
